Expanding Financial Access for Immigrants and Their Families

Our Mission

At Alterna, our mission is to expand financial access for Latino immigrants, mixed-status families, and underserved communities by providing practical, easy-to-use digital financial tools designed for real everyday needs. We are committed to helping individuals and families participate more fully in the financial system—regardless of immigration status, language barriers, or limited access to traditional banking services. Through culturally relevant outreach, trusted community partnerships, and financial education, Alterna works to create greater financial stability, independence, and opportunity for the communities we serve. Our goal is to simplify cross-border financial life by connecting families in the United States, Mexico, and Guatemala through secure, affordable, and accessible digital financial solutions.

How We're Different

Alterna stands apart by combining innovative financial technology with a deeply community-centered approach. Rather than relying solely on traditional advertising, Alterna partners with trusted Latino community leaders, organizations, tax professionals, small business owners, churches, and local advocates who already serve immigrant communities. This grassroots model helps build trust, improve financial literacy, and increase access among individuals who may feel overlooked or uncomfortable with traditional banks. Unlike many financial platforms that offer only one service, Alterna provides an integrated ecosystem of mobile financial applications specifically designed for cross-border Latino families. The new Alterna primary app streamlines the user experience by combining core U.S. financial services and remittance capabilities into a single, simplified platform. Eligible users can apply for a U.S. digital bank account and debit card directly through the app, even without a Social Security number. The app also allows users to send money digitally to family members in Latin America quickly and conveniently without visiting physical remittance locations. In addition to the primary U.S. app, Alterna offers dedicated banking applications for family members living in Mexico and Guatemala. Through the Alterna Mexico and Alterna Guatemala apps, users in those countries can open their own local digital bank accounts and receive debit cards issued by local banking partners. This creates a more connected financial experience for families across borders and enables fast, seamless transfers between family members. Alterna’s focus on accessibility, bilingual support, mobile-first technology, and community trust allows the company to serve populations that are frequently excluded from traditional financial systems. By combining financial tools, remittances, and international family banking into one connected ecosystem, Alterna delivers a practical and culturally relevant solution built specifically for the realities of immigrant and cross-border families.
